I was going to take a break from running today, but somehow ended up running with my friend Brian. We went over to the track to run and I decided I wanted to try and run two laps without stopping. 1/2 mile. So, we walked two laps to warm up and then I started in (as did Brian). I ran the first lap and stopped just long enough to check my time and reset the timer (2:11) then I took off for lap two. I walked for about 10 seconds about 3/4 of the way into it, but still finished it in a good time (2:23). I felt really good for running that far with very minimal stops. Although my calves hurt like H the whole cool-down lap that I walked. Then I ran another lap in about 2 minutes and stretched. Success!
Oh, I forgot...before we left I went to put a band-aid on my blister and this is all I could find:
So, I'm also thinking about how different this is than the Polar Plunge that I did in February. That was very individual, no training...just a unique event. It was still awesome, but very different than this.
I realized last week that if I don't start training for this NOW, I won't finish it. For sure. I had to make a conscious decision that for the next 8 weeks I'm going to train and do something I honestly am not sure I'm going to be able to do. Anybody can jump into freezing cold water. This is different. So, I am committed to training and finishing this thing in August!
The other thing is that I'm really excited to do this WITH people. Today I ran with my friend Brian and I think he and his wife are going to train for and run this 5k, too. Sweet! So far, I think there are at least 7 of us that are going to run it! That's so cool. And I know another person who is going to run it "with us" while he's in Arizona (my best friend, Steven - I noticed the other day I always introduce him as "my wife's brother," but we've been best friends for like 11 years longer than I've been married to his sister...).
If you're up for the challenge, I'd love for you to join us! The more the merrier!
(This entry seemed heavy on the corny)
I walked half a mile round trip today. Of course I stopped for a caramel sunday at McDonald's half way.
ReplyDeleteBut mad props to you man, keep up the good work.
