I'll start with the basics and work into more specifics.
I thought the dialogue was horrible. I was embarrassed for Liam because of what he had to work with.
It was incredibly heavy-handed. I half expected them to start reading character background as dialogue. "Oh, hi, Kim's biological father. I'm your ex-wife's new, rich husband. I make you feel really bad about yourself." Or when his 3 friends came over and were blatantly developing character history. "Remember this funny story? No, you don't, because you weren't there. Just like you've never been there...for Kim. See how I did that?"
While it was fun to see Liam killing everyone that came into his line of sight, the action was still cliche. It included your standard car chase and explosion and bad-guys-shooting-a-million-bullets-at-the-good-guy-from-close-range-and-missing-while-he-kills-everyone-with-one-bullet-each (all at the same time, no less).
The way they incorporated a "hot issue" right now (sex trafficking) as a plot point really bugged me.
The end made me SOOOOOOOO friggin' mad. Ok, so he shoots the sheik and reunites with Kim. Annnnnd...scene. Now, let's think about this. He's just killed EVERYONE on the boat (and about 40 other people in Paris)...do we have any idea where the boat even IS at this point?? How did he get them OFF the boat?? The very next scene is Liam and Kim at the airport in the USA and she runs to her mom like nothing happened. Really? NO national or international attention was brought throughout this ordeal? Not even after that French dude's wife was shot BY Liam (which was the ONLY part I liked)? And then they're leaving the airport and Kim's fake dad, Liam's enemy, the guy who CAUSED this to happen (not really, but they made it sound that way at one point and then never talked about it again) starts to act all buddy-buddy with Liam? Really??
And the kicker...after being kidnapped, witnessing rape for sure, losing her best friend (who died chained to a bed, next scene!), having her dad shoot a guy in the head while the guy was holding her, tons of people killed...Kim gets to meet a pop singer with her dad?? WTF(rick)?? We're supposed to think this is cute??
Ok, so I guess that's it. I thought that maybe, after I thought more about it, I'd find out that I actually liked it. But no...still hate it.

Poor Liam...even electrocuting this guy to death didn't make me like the movie.
lol. i agree... my mother made me watch this movie before i went to egypt because she thought it was so realistic and was actually going to happen to me... i mean, granted, it could have... but watching a horrible unrealistic film didn't help prevent anything...
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Did she also say, "DON'T share a taxi and avoid men named Markos."
