Sucky run this morning.
I really did conspire against myself, though. In addition to getting to bed late (after 12:30am) and off to a late start this morning, I was severely dehydrated. After my run, I figured out that I hadn't had a sip of water since 3pm yesterday. And at the wedding last night I had 3 Spotted Cows and a glass of champagne. Great idea, dude! Plus, the sun was already beating me down at 7:20am.
And honestly, I just felt off from the start. My body was probably telling me, "Hey...so...yeah. This is probably not a good idea to do right now." I'd hate to be a professional athlete on a huge gameday, waking up and just feeling off. I'm sure it happens to everybody. Unfortunately, I don't get paid millions of dollars for poor performance like some people do.
My mind was against me from the start, too. My calves killed after about a half mile (dehydration, I'm sure) and from that point on I knew I'd eventually have to walk. I ended up walking three times, but I was able to get close to two miles before the first time.
So, I'm glad that I went out. I still did the whole 2.75 and ran to the finish. And I learned again, so all is not lost. I admit that I panicked for a second, thinking, "The race is two weeks from today! How am I going to do this??" But, I know better than that.
I'll be better prepared for race day. And I'll save the Spotted Cows for afterward.
